LinkedIn Alerts Guide

LinkedIn is more than a job portal—it’s one of the best places to find internships, off-campus jobs, referrals, and connect with recruiters.

A well-optimized LinkedIn profile combined with job alerts can significantly improve your chances of getting interviews.

Follow Hiring Influencers (Most Important)

Many recruiters, placement mentors, and developers post hiring updates before they appear on job portals.

They regularly share:

  • Off-campus drives
  • Internship openings
  • Referral opportunities
  • Startup hiring
  • Remote jobs

Follow these creators and turn on the Bell icon so you’re notified whenever they post.

You can find a curated list in the Resources → LinkedIn section of this guide.

Tip: Check LinkedIn once or twice a day. Applying within the first few hours often gives you an advantage.

Set Up Job Alerts

Go to the Jobs section and create alerts for roles such as:

  • Software Engineer
  • Software Engineer Intern
  • Frontend Developer
  • Backend Developer
  • Full Stack Developer
  • Data Analyst
  • Machine Learning Engineer

Enable both Email and Push Notifications.

Create alerts for multiple job titles instead of just one.

Follow Companies

Follow companies you’re interested in so you receive updates about:

  • New job openings
  • Internship programs
  • Hiring announcements
  • Company news

Always apply through the company’s official careers page whenever possible.

Connect with Recruiters

Search for and connect with:

  • Technical Recruiters
  • Campus Recruiters
  • Talent Acquisition Specialists
  • Engineering Recruiters

Keep your profile complete so recruiters can easily find you.

Stay Active

Being active increases your visibility.

Try to:

  • Share projects.
  • Post your learning.
  • Comment on hiring posts.
  • Participate in hackathons.
  • Connect with students and professionals.

Even a few interactions each week can improve your profile visibility.

Use Relevant Keywords

Include keywords that match your target role, such as:

  • Software Engineer
  • Frontend Developer
  • Backend Developer
  • Full Stack Developer
  • React
  • Node.js
  • Java
  • Python
  • SQL
  • Machine Learning

Only list skills you’re comfortable discussing in interviews.
