The Profile Evaluation

Before shortlisting, classify yourself.

• Tier 1: GPA > 9.0, GRE 325+, Papers/Internships. -> Target Top 20.
• Tier 2: GPA > 8.0, GRE 315+. -> Target Top 50.
• Tier 3: GPA < 7.5. -> Target Top 100.

The Shortlisting Strategy (Apply to 9 colleges)

Do not apply to only 1 “Dream College”. You might get rejected everywhere.

3 Ambitious (The “Reach” Schools)

• Definition: You have a 20% chance of getting in.
• Why apply: If you get lucky, it changes your life.
• Example (Tier 2 Profile): USC, NYU Courant, NCSU.

3 Moderate (The “Target” Schools)

• Definition: You have a 50-60% chance.
• Why apply: This is where you will likely go.
• Example: ASU, Northeastern, Rutgers.

3 Safe (The “Backup” Schools)

• Definition: You have a 90% chance.
• Why apply: So you don’t waste a year if everything else fails.
• Example: UT Dallas, RIT, CSU Long Beach.

How to Research a University

Don’t just look at rankings (US News). Look at:

1. Location: Is it in California/NY/Seattle/Austin? (Tech hubs = More jobs).
2. Curriculum: Do they have the courses you want (e.g., Deep Learning)?
3. Cost: Can you afford $80k? Or is$40k your limit?
4. Alumni: Check LinkedIn. Where are the grads working? (Amazon? or Unemployed?)

• Rolling Admissions: First come, first serve (e.g., ASU). Apply Early (Aug/Sept).
• Deadline Based: Apply by Dec 1st.
